Nature of Position

Summary

The County Extension Agent – Agriculture conducts educational programs for county clientele in agriculture & 4-H youth. The agent works closely with a broad audience base to solicit support & participation within the county.

Job Duties

Maintains a thorough knowledge of the social, economic, political and cultural characteristics of the county and an effective liaison with local leaders and agencies. Maintains an up-to-date and working knowledge of state Extension water quality programs. Works with county advisory committee members and Urban Stormwater Steering Committee members in identifying and developing programs that meet the needs of county clientele. Assists with interpretative activities of the County Extension Council. Provides leadership in preparing and presenting relevant educational material for planning and updating the county stormwater education plan of work. Develops grant applications for related work and assists with fundraising activities.

Develops and implements annual stormwater education plan of work based on issues identified by the Urban Stormwater Steering Committee. Conducts educational programs and demonstrations in stormwater education. Provides opportunities for educational programs and activities at the county, district, and state levels, including transportation of clientele to such activities as necessary. Provides educational information to leaders in organized groups that facilitate and assist in carrying out the county Extension stormwater education program. Utilizes Extension specialists and other appropriate subject matter resources to conduct county educational programs. Responsible for answering subject matter clientele calls and for site visits to provide advisement as needed.

Utilizes sound evaluation techniques to measure impacts of the county stormwater education program. Reports impacts to the Urban Stormwater Steering Committee and County Extension Council. Reviews evaluation data from delivered programs and makes adjustments as needed to enhance future programs. Seeks advice from county and district supervisors.

Maintains compliance of civil rights and knowledge of current rules and regulations. Plans and implements educational programs to target minorities to achieve 80% parity of participation in program areas by race and gender. Assures that groups worked with are open to the public. Maintains necessary records for civil rights compliance.

Skills

Knowledge of agricultural subject matter appropriate to the county. Ability to plan & conduct programs & work with all clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Ability to speak & write clearly & communicate ideas effectively. Ability to work long & irregular hours & travel frequently.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or related area of study is required. Must have transportation for use on the job with liability insurance in effect. Must agree to a background check authorizing release of relevant Arkansas Child Abuse & Neglect Central Registry records.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with best management practices related to water resource protection and education. Experience in delivering educational programs and interacting with youth and adult audiences.
