Nature of Position

Summary

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for providing operational support in a functional area by gathering, analyzing, and preparing data; creating related reports and documentation; and providing technical assistance to management and internal clients. The position will cross-train and serve as backup for key functions such as running payroll and administering payroll deductions; drawing-down of government funds; assisting with county office and club financial transactions and accounts; and other purchasing, AP and AR duties.

Job Duties

Operational Support – The position will serve as back-up personnel for key functions within the unit. Will be responsible for learning and performing duties related to payroll processing, cash management activities including draw-down processes for funds reimbursement, and other general financial services duties.

Position will assist with the preparation of financial statements, reports of operations, expenditure reports, statistical data, and other information concerning financial requirements. Maintains various ledgers, journals, registers, and other fiscal records; allocates revenues to appropriate functions; classifies expenditures and posts to various accounts as required. Reviews and processes expense vouchers, invoices, and other fiscal documents for payment; reconciles various financial reports and other data concerning fiscal operations.ad hoc report preparation, and assisting with the preparation and analysis of month-end and year-end financial statements. Additional duties may include substantiating financial transactions by auditing documents and reconciling financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a discipline appropriate for the assigned function is required.

Preferred Qualifications

One year of professional related work experience.

Proficiency in Excel.

One year experience using Banner or a similar accounting system to perform accounting and financial functions.

State government experience preferred.
